Will you unwired yourself with WIMAX?

I told you guys that WIMAX is Coming very soon to Kota Kinabalu right? As a a computer geek and a person who can’t live without internet connection this surely a good news. However i doubt this service are not going to be reliable and faster than the current internet connection (Streamyx). To those who never heard about wimax or still blurr what this WIMAX all about, here is the simple explaination of WIMAX.

What is WIMAX?

basically WiMAX is a wireless digital communications system, also known as IEEE 802.16, that is intended for wireless “metropolitan area networks”. The difference between your wireless connection and WiMAX is that Wimax can provide broadband wireless access (BWA) up to 30 miles (50 km) for fixed stations, and 3 - 10 miles (5 - 15 km) for mobile stations. In contrast, the WiFi/802.11 wireless local area network standard is limited in most cases to only 100 - 300 feet (30 - 100m).

WIMAX Faster Than Streamyx?

This is my biggest doubt about WIMAX connection. I do not think this connection will be faster compared to Streamyx since, I believe they will still utilize the current streamyx line to get this WIMAX works. So basically we are just using Unwired version of Streamyx known as WIMAX.

The only good things about this, you can get connected no matter where you are without having to spend your money at starbucks, coffeebean,KFC, or any others places that has wireless internet connection service. That is means, you can now sit at any mamak stall to surf the net! impressive is it? Yup! it is.. We all now can surf the net without having to worry your location (As long as you are in the 50 KM radius)
