This unique fashion showcased Huge bunches of dried flowers sprouted from turbans in gingham and patch worked cottons.

The mega-millinery was the finishing touch to Watanabe’s naïve and romantic interpretation of the native dress worn by women in the fruit and vegetable markets of Ghana, Nigeria or Jamaica.

Bunched and ruched tunics in colourful, organic prints of fauna and floral, were mixed with faded denim skirts, finishing with a petticoat twirl in a contrasting pattern at the hem.

Leopard-print sarongs were twisted around fishtail-dresses printed with sunflowers and birds and bleached-out denim jeans were belted low on the hips to reveal the elastic of the leopard-print thongs underneath.

In the mood of “Sunday best”, Watanabe - a protégé Rei Kawakubo, the avant-garde designer behind the Comme des Garçons label - also showed pretty sun-dresses, smocks and apron-skirts in white, broderie anglaise, accessorized with matching broderie anglaise turbans laden with flowers.
