Beware when using Fedex Courier Service in Malaysia! (FEDEX SUCKS)
Posted on June 29th, 2007 28 commentsI told you that i bought a new O2 handphone right? that’s 4 days ago. I didn’t tell you all that i bought another hand phone the next day. Brand (I-Mobile). This item is from Ebay too (but it’s also available in malaysia but only In KL i think)
Now the item shipped and waiting for custom clearance (KL). one guy from fedex express called me just now and told me that my hand phone need a permit so that they can do the custom clearance. So i said oh ok, how do i go about it, and Mr. Ram told me, i will find the agent in Kota Kinabalu to help you (if available) . Huhuh in less than 5 minutes he called back and inform me that there is no agent available in Kota Kinabalu. So, i asked him back ,Mr. Ram, why i always have problem with Fedex service? i told him “previously i had almost the same old problem, This happen when i’m waiting my camera lens to reach me”. Custom hold the item for 2 days, and they (FEDEX) call me to verify the product and provide details (i mentioned everything from A-Z) ok. Finally the item sent to me after 1 week. (a long wait….)
I thought this is simply a procedure of Fedex Delivery (then i said it’s ok, at least my lens reach me) But when i face the same problem today, i don’t think it’s normal anymore, I bought several item from US,Australia,China,UK (Nikon Point and Shoot Camera,Canon Digital SLR (Rebelxt),Nokia Hp (N95),Wide Screen LCD monitor (HannsG), O2 Accesories,(All delivery went smooth, no issues at all ,What’s the secret? they don’t shipped it using fedex)
Weird? i think it’s weird. i asked the guy, “i wonder how do you actually do business and handle your customer request, this is not right, How come when i use other courier service everything works fine? Nobody send me SMS as early as 3.00AM in the morning to confirm whether to clear the item in custom or not? Do you think i don’t want to get the item that i already paid?”, Mr. Ram ask me “what was the item you bought sir?”, I said, Digital Camera,Camera Lense, LCD monitor (i forgot to mention the hp)then he replied ” Sir, You can’t Compare Apple with Orange sir, you have to compare apply with apple” Aiyoooo, this guy try to confuse me? (hehe funny), then i replied, Mr. Ram, I bought One Nokia Phone From USA (N95) and he said, “Oh really? no issues at all?” i said, “yeah no issues at all” Nationwide come to my office and deliever the item without any question.” He replied ” i think i know why, because that is NOKIA HP a very well known hp, then i replied “Mr.Ram, this is just a standard hp, not even A super duper PDA phone like what i am expecting this coming Monday (O2 Atom Exec)”
So i keep on telling him Fedex Service SUCKS, i said this is my second bad experienced (Don’t worry Mr. Ram, This will be my last time to use your service) He keep quite.
Then i ask him “how do we go about this?, as i really wonder how come others courier service no issues and FedEx got issue?” he replied ” Ok, What i can do is , send me the details of your Handphone, so that i can ask the custom people to clear the item since this is just a standard Cell phone and available in Malaysia, that’s what i can do to help you, or worst come to worst, we may have to send the item back to Thailand.”
Aiyoooo i spend 120USd for this and send back to the seller? Fedex malaysia, are u kidding me? Just now i told you about the agent that can help me to get the permit to use the phone in malaysia right. You know how much it will cost me? RM350.00 that will double the cell phone price.
I said NO, A big NO with the PERMIT.
have you guys experienced any problem when you bought any item outside malaysia? especially using this courier service. Perhaps some of you may share the same problem. If you bought any Cell phone from Outside malaysia and you got it hassle free(Custome clearance) do let me know here
Some of you might wondering, what kind of Cell phone required permit to be used in malaysia? hahaha it’s I–Mobile phone (A Double Mint Gum size hp) (From Samart company) i think this company did use MAWI AF to promote the product (Eh, doesn’t mean i bought the product, i love mawi, YAY)

FedEx…. I would have a party if they folded today. I had a $2,000 piece of equipment shipped to me by them — they dropped the package… we noted the damage to the driver. It was insured… after we set it up (computer component) and tried to make it function – guess what – the drop damaged it and it doesn’t work. File a claim — we did note damage and it was insured. Well … they want to inspect the packing – which — we don’t have anymore… BECAUSE – we weren’t told to keep it! Stupid – I know — I typically keep the packing on everything – but — since we noted the damage upon receipt and the driver inspected it – we figured the monstrosity could be disposed of. No way. Fedex says — the driver is NOT a Fed Ex employee, is not authorized to inspect a package and does not KNOW THEIR INSPECTION POLICY! (but I am supposed to!) So … we’re out of luck… Sitting on a $2K albatross…. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER will I work with FedEx again. They should be shot…. (can ya tell I just hung up the phone with them? lol) Whew — thanks for letting me air that!

Hi there!! I’m also experiencing with the same problem. As u can see, 1 month ago I bought Palm Treo 650 from ebay. Its a smartphone and it cost me USD179 + Shipping USD25. The item was delivered using USPS (United States Postal Service) and it was supposed to reach me in 2 weeks period. Until now I have not yet received my item and I’m not happy about it. I searched the ebay forum and some Malaysians posted that the customs is the problem. I’m sure that my Palm Treo has arrived in 2 weeks time but my item is kept and held by the customs.
-
and if the customs had it, why they don’t call or somehow contact me ? The seller told me that he already ship the item to me and told me it must be the customs who are behind all these problems. Anybody had these problems and solved it ? please contact me. Bukan FEDEX saja sucks you know.. tu k#$t4m pun sama saja..
-
Owh.. I oredy ask the seller, he said if i want a tracking number, its gonna cost some USD. So, I prefer not. I think there is delay with my shipment because I don’t know whether USPS ship my item through air plane or sea ship. In the mean time, i’ll just have to wait.. I don’t have a tracking number, customs didn’t contact me, so the only thing i have to do is wait n wait again..
-
okay, one more thing. if the custom didn’t contact me, what should i do ? how can i know when the customs had seize my item ?

PART 2, MINTA TOLONG lah encik… TOlonglah enCik…… (after not less than 20 TOLONG’s i guess) and the post laju staff ask me to see the custom officer (in the small room behind the post office near despatch area) my heart rate keep going-up……
PART 3, and your guys (girls) guess how is the story going-on……… Ohh..DAMN NICE and friendly the custom officer HE talks more gently than my EM lecturer…. he open-up the parcel (CANTIK JUGA HP JEPUN NIEhhhh..ah..) and check there is no other unmentioned things inside…after paying the tax and he gave me my docomo. when leaving custom office (one step more to door frame) LAIN KALI JANGAN BUAT LAGI AH…. the custom officer remind me….. -

Hi, I’m not sure but i think the problem is not with Courier Company, as they do ship the items to the countries within the advertised time. The problem as most of you have found is the the Malaysia Custom Dept. It really depends, I think, as to how much ‘Convenience Fee’ has been given to the specific dept. The company I had worked for had intended to set up a bonded ware house in M’sia and did not want to pay ‘convenience fees’ so the customs make it really difficult for the bonded warehouse to operate…claiming documents for shipping were wrong, info not submitted…all the reasons just to make it difficult..so finally the company packed it business and shipped it Singapore…no problems ever since.
Anyway if you’re buying Telecommunication devices from abroad, customs will make it a point to insist for sirim certification. It is a law here….those HAM radio enthusiasts will be able to tell you why.

hello everyone,
to be truth , i wanna share my experience when using fedex to ship my package from US to Malaysia. I have use their service for more than 40 times.. all the shipment that i made through fedex just taking 3 days delivery including custom clearance before it reach to my house.. even i bought macbook pro from ebay.. still no issue with customs.. all just cleared.. im really satisfied with their service , never got delay because shipment being held at customs or etc.. etc..
the point is, when u have any shipment that come from overseas, make sure the sender pack it properly and declare it as a GIFT ( this will help you guys from being TAXED by the customs. )
p/s: use express service with fedex.. satisfaction guaranteed.. i do not have any affiliation with fedex, just wanna share my experience. if got anything, u guys can shoot an email to : ajeeefuu@live.com

To mis-identify a purchase as a ‘gift’ is customs fraud. No reputable U.S. or EU retailer will ship a product abroad and sign a customs declaration claiming the contents as ‘a gift.” It’s fraud!
On the other hand, you could have a friend living in the US or EU make the purchase for you, then they could ship the product to you as a “gift”.
The downside to this is that the warranty for the product is going to be in the name of the purchaser, your friend -
